Bravium is Latin for “gift” and pays homage to the cool-climate vineyards where these wines are sourced.

Created by winemaker Derek Rohlffs, Bravium is the culmination of meticulous care in the vineyards and a patient approach in the cellar. Derek takes his cues from tradition. He doesn’t alter what the earth gives him. He’s a classic minimalist.

Derek draws on hillside and mountaintop fruit in the coveted cool-climate vineyards of Sonoma’s Russian River Valley and Mendocino’s Anderson Valley to create terroir-driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Gentle movement in the winery and eschewing of sterile filtration allows the final wines to be terroir-driven snapshots of their vineyards and appellations.

Derek Rohlffs, Founder and Winegrower

A graduate of the trailblazing Environmental Studies program at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Derek also took coursework in the world-renowned winemaking program at the University of California at Davis. His far-reaching travels have afforded in-depth visits to the wine regions of France, Italy, and Australia.

But his most impactful influence may have been a retrospective tasting he experienced at Mayacamas Vineyards during his first visit to Napa Valley. Those wines captivated Derek in untold ways, and he resolved then to become a winemaker. He later crossed paths with the acclaimed winemakers at Rhys Vineyards, who steered Derek toward cool-climate, mountainside fruit.

Transparent Winemaking

“I am proud of my minimalist winemaking and want to be transparent so consumers are fully aware of what is in their glasses. Each one of my wines includes an ingredient list on the back label, providing a wonderful opportunity to educate about how simply this historic artisan beverage is often crafted.” – Derek Rohlffs
